Crisis and Intensive Services: Forensics Case Management and Treatment
Forensics Case Management and Treatment
Forensic case management and treatment encompass three separate programs: Jail Diversion, Aid & Assist, and PSRB.
Jail Diversion
- The Jail Diversion program consists of voluntary community-based services designed to keep individuals with mental health concerns out of the criminal justice system. Our mental health services aim to guide people in becoming independent and mentally healthy. Ultimately, we strive to address mental health symptoms to decrease contact with law enforcement and avoid or reduce time spent in jail. Often, we do this through case management, individual counseling, coordination with justice-system entities, and connection with other services including medication management and peer support.
Aid & Assist
- The Aid & Assist program at Lifeways is guided by the Oregon Revised Statute. For an individual to participate in these services, a judge must find them unfit to proceed with their criminal charges due to a mental disorder. Services provided by this program are aimed at decreasing any interfering symptoms and improving an individual’s legal knowledge and understanding. The purpose of these services is to allow the individual to return to court and be able to resolve their legal circumstances.
PSRB
- This program serves individuals who are under the jurisdiction of the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB) by way of a judge’s order. There are two ways for someone to be placed under the PSRB’s jurisdiction. First, they can be found “Guilty Except for Insanity (GEI)” by a court, or second can be civilly committed by a court as an “extremely dangerous person with qualifying mental disorder.” In coordination with the PSRB, Lifeways coordinates all treatment and monitoring required during their supervision by the board.
